As we look back on 2018, we are grateful for you, our incredible donors and the driving force behind UConn Nation — but we aren’t the only ones who want to say thank you. Read on to see just a few of the thank you notes submitted by students.

I would just like to thank you for awarding me this scholarship and allowing me to receive a top-notch education at a school that I love. Because of your help, I am able to pursue my dreams and find new interests and passions.

As the son of a single mother, support such as yours has proved invaluable in covering financial expenses. Without having to worry about gas and insurance costs related to my daily Waterbury-Hartford commute, I can study and complete coursework on weekends rather than pick up extra shifts.

I think when people think of scholarships, they think of money for tuition, but for me, this scholarship will cover my basic needs which will enable me to continue to go to school. Although I have two part-time jobs, my basic needs were still not being meet, as in food, housing, and transportation. Without all these basic needs being covered I wouldn’t have a way to continue going to school.

My lifelong dream of attending pharmacy school is moving forward, thanks to generous educational scholarships like yours. Since being named one of the recipients of the James Malaney Memorial Scholarship, my dream is becoming a reality at UConn. The award gives me an opportunity to earn skills that will serve the community following graduation. Without scholarship patrons willing to support education, students such as myself would be unable to pursue advanced healthcare degrees.

Besides helping me on a financial level, this scholarship award also helps by serving as a motivation to do well in my studies. I am deeply grateful for this scholarship and I value the trust that you have granted me, so it will drive me to put my best effort in school.

In my family I am a first-generation college student. Having a mentor will help me so much as I don’t have anyone to give me advice about future opportunities and careers. I work two jobs to sustain myself, afford going to school, and help out as well. Your generosity helped a lot. I really can’t thank you enough.

The scholarship was unexpected and greatly appreciated. This is my last semester in the MBA program, and this scholarship came at a perfect time. This program has been a wonderful, challenging experience, and I am proud to be a Husky. I have learned a great deal both about business and myself. It was truly a period of growth. I look forward to applying all of the lessons I’ve learned during the next chapter of my career.

This award gives me the opportunity to attend this incredible study abroad trip to Belgium and to learn about their healthcare system and standards of care. It is so important to become educated on nursing care in other countries to help correct our weaknesses in our system. By collaborating and sharing each other’s advancements in health care, we can work on fixing our problems like our countries’ lackluster life expectancy and our high infant mortality rate. Thank you for this scholarship and I plan to use this opportunity to the fullest.
